Parker, CO – The No. 6 Eaglecrest Raptors (7-2)  took care of business on the road Friday night at Chaparral, defeating the Wolverines 60-52.  The game featured many characteristics that a first game back from the long holiday break would.  Both teams struggled with turnovers, shooting, layups and free throws throughout the game. Eaglecrest’s senior guard Jaiseasn Jackson led the Raptors explosive 20 point third quarter to take control of the game.

It was a slow start to the beginning of the game, with both teams combining for 12 points in the first 4 minutes of action. The Wolverines however took control late in the quarter with back to back three-pointers from junior guards Chase Coon and Peter Wilson to build a seven point lead, 20-13. Jackson scored his only two points of the first half to cut the lead to 20-15 at the end of the quarter. Coon totaled seven points in the quarter for the Wolverines.

Again the first four minutes of the second quarter both teams had trouble knocking off the rust. Chaparral controlled the defensive glass for much of the quarter allowing the Raptors very few second chance points. Chaparral’s senior post Hayden Dalton tallied a double- double in the first half with 10 points and 10 rebounds and helped the Wolverines gain a 29-23 lead with less than a minute left to play in the half. Free throws kept the Raptors within striking distance at the end of the half going 4 of 4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to cut the Wolverine lead to 2, 29-27 at half.

The entire second half belonged to Eaglecrest’s Jackson and the Wolverines had no answer for him. Jackson went off for 21 of his game high 23 points in the second half. Eaglecrest extended their zone defense which created opportunities  for Jackson to steal the ball and finish at the other end usually resulting in a three point play. Jackson outscored the entire Chaparral team himself 14-7 in the third quarter. While Jackson heated up the third quarter, Chaparral could not get anything going on offense.

The Raptors built a 14 point lead by the beginning of the fourth quarter. Chaparral attempted a comeback and cut the lead to 5, 51-46 with 3 minutes left in the game but the Wolverines could not break the five to six point threshold. The main culprit was Eaglecrest’s defense getting key rebounds or causing a turnover that would lead to Jackson shooting free throws. The senior guard went 7 of 10 from the free throw line in the final quarter while the rest of the team combined to go 0-5 from the free throw line.

Chaparral did have four players in double figures Dalton scored 1o point and finished with 15 rebounds, junior Jake Holtzman had a double -double as well 10 points and 10 rebounds, junior Peter Wilson scored 10 points and junior Chase Coon had a Wolverine high 13 points.

Eaglecrest was lead by Jackson’s 23 points, and junior Blend Avdili added 11 points.
