Parker, CO – The gym was packed Tuesday night at Chaparral High School, when the #4 Overland Trailblazers and the #6 Chaparral Wolverines took the court. In their first game in Colorado since the first game of the season, the Trailblazers clung to a one point lead at half-time and then held off the Wolverines in the fourth quarter shooting 7 of 7 from the free throw line to earn the 59-51 victory.

In the first half the Trailblazers built an eight point lead behind senior forward Ryan Swan. The Air Force commit was getting easy buckets and rebounds around the basket as the Wolverines put much of their attention towards Overland’s other forward junior DeRon Davis. The Wolverines stormed back to cut the lead to one point when leading scorer senior guard Jake Holtzmann reentered the game after picking up his second foul late in the first quarter, to score seven points in two minutes. Holtzmann, the DU commit,  attacked the basket through out the night. However, Overland answered with a free throw from senior point guard Austin Conway and 2-3 zone busting three pointer from junior Padiet Wang to grow the lead. This time Chaparral answered with senior wing Chris Moody, who scored the last six points of the half, including this steal and buzzer beater

Overland lead at halftime 33 -32.

The Trailblazers started the second half with a 7-0 run and was able to hold the Wolverines to six points in the third quarter. Davis led the way for the Traiblazers scoring five points in the quarter and ruled the lane on both ends of the floor. Meanwhile Chaparral struggled to find its groove as Conway denied and chased Holtzmann around the court keeping him from touching the ball. Overaland was able to maintain the eight point lead early in the fourth quarter, however Chaparral held Overland scoreless for nearly five minutes. Chap was able to cut the Trailblazer lead to 46-44 after a Moody offensive put back with 3:00 left to play. Then Conway and Gibson got on a roll and combined for 11 of Overlands last 13 points.  Overland proved that they are more than one or two players and that it can play a well balanced game, with all five starters scoring 8 points or more.
