16 Under Recap
The four teams that remained in Sunday’s semifinals steamrolled the competition and they were clearly the four best teams in the Mile High for this viewing period. Led by two of the top young big men in the country the talent level displayed by these teams was high.
Minnesota D1 proved to be just too big and talented for Colorado Chaos 2015 in one of the semifinal games. In the other Semifinal the Colorado Hawks 16s controlled the game against Billups Elite 16s from the onset and cruised to an easy victory. This set up the much anticipated match up of 2015 6’10 Forward Henry Ellenson (Rice Valley HS) and 6’8 Forward Deron Davis (Overland HS) in the tournament final.
In the final Ellenson and 6’2 guard Marshawn Wilson (Hill Murray HS) led Minnesota D1 to a hard fought 59-55. The game started with Ellenson going right at Davis. Davis was able to establish a defensive presence inside and the game quickly turned into a perimeter battle. Wilson was the leading scorer with 19 and hit key baskets and scores the ball very easily. The Hawks were led by the versatile Davis and made it close throughout but were undone by a few mistakes late. Look for the Hawks to continue to be a must see team for college coaches in July with the elite prospect tandem of Davis and 5’10 Austin Conway (Overland HS)
Austin Conway 5’10 Guard Overland HS
Deron Davis 6’8 Forward Overland HS
