Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase 2015

Nearly 100 of the best high school players in the state gathered at Legend High School Saturday for the annual Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase.  Until this year there had been only one player to get a triple double in any game, this year two players earned triple doubles.  It was a fun day of basketball.

Top 4 Plays

  1. Elijah Coleman ally-oop to LaDarius Thomas in transition
  2. Ravel Moody two hand dunk in traffic                                                                                                     The video doesn’t do it justice
  3. Ravel Moody two handed put back dunk in traffic
  4. Payton Eggloff back door pass to Hunter Shkapich

Things you should know

Daylen Kountz and Sam Masten are the best in the class of 2018  and Jon’il Fugett is coming on strong.

Kountz is special not only did he have 20 points in the sophomore game but he scored another 20 in the Top20 game. Masten was unable to play in the Top20 game because of a prior commitment. Possibly more on that later.

Daylen-Kountz-2015

Kountz is a gifted scorer and there are only a  select few that can stay with him when has the ball. He is a smooth ball handler and not a lot of wasted motion to get to his spots to score.

A few players bowed out of the Top20 game due to illness or social engagements allowing players like Kountz, 2018 Jon’il Fugett, and 2017 Ravel Moody to play in the top game and they showed that they belonged.

Freshmen Game

The game MVP was Smoky Hill talented freshman Kenny Foster. The 6’3 wing is physically gifted, he is stronger, has better body control and can out jump most of his counter parts in his class. Expect Foster  to compete for a starting role with Smoky Hill this season.

Jo Nelson will also be a potential starter for the Northeast Warriors (Montbello). He has command on the floor and can score too.

Sophomore Game

This game was highly anticipated as many of the best players in the class committed to play in the game. Guards Dylan Kountz and Sam Masten didn’t disappoint.

Jon’il Fugett was excellent as was Brendan Sullivan who were chosen by the event organizers as the MVP’s of the game.

However, Basketball Colorado chose 6’1 guard Shawn’Trell White from George Washinton as the MVP. White had a record 12 steals and was dominating on the defensive end of the floor. With quick hands, long arms and a high motor he made the game difficult for some the class’s best guards.

Junior Game

May have been the best played game of the day. It was a coming out party of sorts for Thomas JeffersIMG_4167on’s 6’3 guard Ravel Moody. Moody has always been a good scorer for the Spartans and is known in DPS circles as one of the top juniors in the City. Moody had a triple double on his way to MVP honors. He has the size, skill and the swagger to attract college coaches attention.

Jervay Green a 6’3 guard from George Washington has “it” as a player. He can get any shot he wants and is a true shooting guard.

 Senior Game

IMG_4172The game was decided by halftime but that didn’t stop 6’4 forward Jack Fiddler from Highlands Ranch and 6’2 guard Davlen Brushier of Doherty from putting on a show. Fiddler had the highest point output of the day with 37 points off including eight made three’s. Fiddler has been known as an effort or a glue type guy but if this shooting consistency continues he will have D3 coaches  calling often considering his tremendously high G.P.A.

IMG_4173Brushier played the game at higher pace than most and it was evident that he was just better than most of the players in this game. He could have definitely made a case for the Top 20 game. His ball skills are good and can get into the lane and finish with ease.

Top 20 Game

IMG_4188The Top 20 Game allowed a couple of players to shine is a fairly close game by All-star game standards. It was very evident that DeRon Davis is without question the top player in the state. He
scored 20 points  mainly off jump shots with a couple of dunks in transition and was Basketball Colorado’s MVP.

However a close, a very close second was 2017 6’5 wing Hunter Maldonado. He impresses each time out and clearly deserves to be talked about in the top 5-10 in his class. Fundamentally sound, athletic, a nose for the ball and a knack for scoring. Not much the kid can’t do.
