Denver, CO – The Denver East Angels are loaded with talent and have not been beaten in the state of Colorado so far this season. The #1 ranked team in the state added another victory to its belt on Saturday afternoon at Manual High School’s Thunderdome, soundly defeating the Montbello Warriors, 66-37.  The Warriors kept the game fairly close in the first quarter, but after that it was all Angels. The Angels arsenal of talented juniors exploited the lack of Warrior offense to build an insurmountable lead in the second half.
The Angels started off fast yet out of control in the first quarter forcing the Warriors into 6 turnovers in the first 2:00 of the game but were only able to covert 7 points. Highly recruited junior Dom Collier led the Angles with 7 points in the quarter.  After the shaky start, the Warriors were able to get back in the game behind senior AJ Hayes’ 4 points. The quarter came to a close with the Angels leading 14-11.
The second quarter belonged to Collier and fellow junior Ronnie Harrell. The two combined for 15 of the 17 points the Angels scored in the quarter.  The Angels defense gave the Warriors fits all day. Aside from a couple of highlight put back dunks from sophomore Troy Green, the Warriors were unable to manage much of an offensive threat in the quarter. The Warriors went scoreless the last 3:30 of the quarter while the Angels finished the quarter with an 8-point outburst with Harrell scoring 6 of the points, giving the Angels a 31-21 lead going into half time.
While the second quarter belong to Collier and Harrell, the third quarter belong to East’s sophomore Brian Carey and junior Tyre Robinson. They combined for 13 of the Angels 15 points in the quarter.  The Angels started out with a quick 5 points to start the quarter pushing the lead to 15 after a deep three pointer from Harrell which all but broke the back of the Warriors. Montbello junior Karamoko Cisse tried to provide a spark for the Warriors scoring four points off two dunks in the quarter.  However, East’s Harrell and Robinson dominated the defensive boards not allowing the Warriors any second chance opportunities. The East defense held Montbello scoreless again for the last 3:00 of the quarter and pushed its lead to 48-28 by the end of the quarter.
Carey opened the fourth quarter with two three pointers that lead to a 11-3 run in the first 3:00 of the quarter, capped off by a Robinson windmill dunk to give the Angels a 57-33 lead. The Warriors would not score another field goal in the last 4:45 of the game.
Four of the five Angels starters scored in double figures: Carey had 16 points and 5 steals, Collier added 16 points and 5 rebounds, Harrell posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Robinson scored 12 and added 9 rebounds and 8 blocked shots.  Green was the only Montbello player that scored in double figures with 15.
