6’7 Forward Marcus Asmus of Standley Lake Commits

10/21/2013

Press Release From Colorado CHAOS

2013 HS Basketball Standley Lake at Ralston ValleyThe Colorado Chaos Basketball Club is proud to announce Marcus Asmus (6’7” CF, Standley Lake HS 2014) has committed to play at Augustana University.

Asmus choose national powerhouse Augustana for a variety of reasons. He felt a strong connection to head coach Tom Billeter and assistant coach Jeff Trumbauer as well as his future Vikings teammates. He also really enjoyed the schools strong academics and atmosphere of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota campus and was excited to play for one of the premiere Division II programs in the country. Asmus becomes the Vikings second commitment from the Class of 2014, joining big man Matt Heitmann (6’9” P Williamsburg, IA HS 2014).

Augustana is a Division II national powerhouse. They begin this 2013 / 2014 season ranked 22nd in the nation after a 21 win season last year. Over the past six years, the Vikings have a combined 124-55 record and averaged nearly 21 wins per year in the extremely touch Northern Sun Conference. Equally as impressive, Augustana is annually one of the Division II attendance leaders and finished last season 4th in the country in attendance. Augustana Head Coach Tom Billeter is entering his 11th season at the helm for the Vikings. With 166 wins, he is the schools all-time winningiest coach and was also named the Clarence Gaines National Coach of the Year last season.

Asmus has had a tremendous high school career at Standley Lake for head coach Mike Puccio. He was especially tremendous as a junior last season averaging 19.1 points, and a state leading 12.0 rebounds to go with 1.9 blocks per game. Those totals include scoring in double figures in every single game of the year and recording a state leading 17 double-doubles. He was also an All State and All Conference selection. As a senior this season, Asmus should build on his outstanding junior year and be one of the leading scorers and rebounders in the state.

Asmus played his club basketball for the Colorado Chaos D1 Ambassadors. This past season, he helped lead the Colorado Chaos to countless wins and multiple prominent tournament titles.
