1st Annual A-Town Throw Down

1st Annual A-Town Throw Down

The first annual A-Town Throw Down  took place at Vista Peak High School Friday night. The event was a success with a couple of hundred people in attendance to catch a glimpse of the Vista Peak Bison and the Rangeview Raiders.

The event started off with the Unified game between the two schools. The game had some great moments that elicited thunderous applause and genuine fandom from fans of both schools.   The second event of the night was the 3-point contest.  Rangeview sophomore guard hit 16/25  in one minute to take the lead into the second around. The second round did not see as many makes as in the previous round because fatigue had set in. In the second round Rangeview freshmen guard DJ Pigford and Vista Peak senior Jaren LeCabe advanced to the finals.  In the finals LeCabe hit 11 3-pointers to take the title.

After the dance teams of both school performed, the skills competition was held.  Below you can watch as Vista Peak’s Bryan Eckert wins the skills event.

The final event of the night was the dunk contest. Early favorite to win the dunk contest was Rangview’s Eric Jackson. He is a fast riser and throws the ball down with authority and he didn’t disappoint in the first round netting the highest score. In the final around though he went next level to leave no doubt but he was unable to pull of the bounce 360. It appeared that senior Ryan Ongala was set to win the contest after he had a very solid dunk in the first around and then an adequate dunk after Jackson missed his. Then came the drama as 6’0 guard Ayden Clayton pulled the 6’5 Ongala on the court and positioned him just in front of the rim. The resulting dunk led Clayton to win the contest.

It was a fun night had by all, with possibilities of being bigger and better next season. Kudos to Coach Clement and Coach Palmer for getting this event started.
