Roosevelt Rides Their Press to the Girls 5A Final Four

Denver, CO – The Roosevelt Girls Basketball team trailed the Air Academy Kadets 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Roughriders were taking their shots and but couldn’t get much to fall. Meanwhile Air Academy was seemingly getting everything to fall especially if Caitlin Kramer got the shot off. Something had to change for the Roughriders. The Roughriders started the second quarter pressing.

The Roosevelt man to man press at first flustered the Kadets, then frustrated them. The Roughriders used it to hold the Kadets to just eight points in the second quarter. The length and athletic ability of the Roosevelt players caused the Kadets to continually to The combination of Kyla Hollier and Brooklyn Meze wore down the Kadets defense in the lane. Roosevelt over took the Kadets late in the quarter and held a 30-26 lead at haltime.

From there on out the Kadets and the Roughriders traded knockout blows through the 3rd and fourth quarter. Kramer scored nearly every time she touched the ball when the Kadets could get past the Roosevelt press and kept the Kaets within striking distance the entire half.

But Roosevelt kept up the pressure and spread out the scoring. Brynn Price and Ryanne Bahnsen-Price were huge contributors in the second half. Price hit an important three pointer that kept the Roughriders in the lead. She also had the task of slowing down Kramer which she did in the fourth quarter blocking a potential game tying three late in the game.

Roosevelt forcing 36 turnovers for the game was the difference maker.
