#7 Chatfield Charges Past Boulder

The #7 Chatfield Chargers ran past the visiting Boulder Panthers 58-44. It wasn’t even that close as Chatfield led by 20 points most of the 4th quarter until the benches were empty. On paper this appeared to be a preview of a possible playoff match up. With Chatfield having a 6-1 record before break and Boulder 5-2 with their only losses coming to top10 teams as well.  However it was anything but. Chatfield used a stingy defense and a rim attacking offense to gain an early lead an never relinquish it. Boulder on the other had was out if sync the entire night and lost senior Jack Boyle to an injury.

There was only one point of the game where the lead appeared to be in jeopardy. After senior Landon Taliaferro had basically kept the Panthers in the game for most of the first and second quarter senior Bill Di Scipio made a shot in the lane to cut the Charger lead 20-18 with 3:23 left in the quarter.  Chatfield answered with a 11-4 run capped by this Joe Miks three pointer just before halftime.

In the third quarter Chatfields defense went up another notch and held Boulder to five  points. In fact the Panthers had turnovers in seven straight possessions and grabbed very few if any offensive rebounds. That was due in part to the play of Chargers senior Josh Frenette. The 6’5 forward controlled the paint the entire night by grabbing rebounds and hitting jumps hooks.   If it wasn’t Frenette making good plays it was senior guard Cam Pearson was excellent driving to the basket or hitting wide open threes.

Chatfield appears ready for a tough run through an improved Jeffco 5a League.
